Aberdeen High School, public school in Aberdeen, Washington, United States
Aberdeen High School is a high school in the town of Aberdeen, Washington, serving students in grades nine through twelve. The campus combines buildings from different periods, with bricks and signs from the original school building preserved in the newer structure.
The school was founded in 1908, making it over a hundred years old. The original Weatherwax building from 1909 housed classrooms and offices until a fire destroyed it in 2002, after which a new school building opened in 2007.
The school is named after J. M. Weatherwax, a significant figure in its past. Students wear blue and gold colors with pride, showing their connection to the school community and local traditions.
The school is centrally located in Aberdeen on North G Street and is within walking distance for many students. Free tutoring support is available, and small class sizes with an average of 17 students per teacher make individual help easier to access.
The school produced Kurt Cobain, the singer and guitarist of the band Nirvana, along with other notable graduates including former NFL players and a Nobel Prize winner. This connection to well-known figures often goes unnoticed and gives the school historical importance beyond its local role.
