Mount Tom Ski Area, Ski resort in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
Mount Tom Ski Area was a ski resort in Holyoke, Massachusetts, north of Springfield, with 15 trails spread across different skill levels. Four double chairlifts along with T-bars, a J-bar, and a rope tow carried skiers up the mountain.
The resort opened in 1962 and quickly became a popular winter destination for people across Massachusetts. After more than three decades of operation, it closed in 1998.
The ski school brought in Austrian instructors who taught racing techniques to students from nearby high schools and local ski clubs. For many young people in the area, it was one of the few places where they could train seriously for competition.
The former resort can be reached via Mountain Park Road, which leads to the Mount Tom Ski Road junction. Parking is available near this intersection for those who want to explore the site on foot.
Night skiing was introduced here in 1967, with all trails lit up for evening runs. By the early 1990s, this offering accounted for around 40 percent of the resort's total revenue.
