Rockwell Field

Rockwell Field is an athletic field at Kent State University featuring wooden bleachers on both sidelines and a surrounding running track. The grounds function as an open space for organized sports competitions and student recreation activities.

The field opened in 1920 and was named after David Ladd Rockwell, an early supporter of Kent State Normal School. The site later became central to significant events that shaped the campus and broader community.

The space serves as a gathering point for students and visitors walking across campus, where people gather before events or simply pass through during their day. The field's role as a social center extends beyond sports, with the grounds hosting informal meetings and casual recreation.

The grounds received National Historic Landmark designation in 2017 for its significance in relation to events that took place in 1970. This recognition marks one of the most important designations a campus space can receive in the United States.
