Masonic Temple, Masonic temple in Kent, Ohio.
The Masonic Temple is a two-and-a-half-story brick building set on a sandstone foundation with tall windows and a wraparound porch. A central tower topped with a slate roof forms the focal point of its exterior.
Construction took place between 1880 and 1882 under architect Isaac Tuttle's supervision. It originally functioned as a residence for the Kent family before being converted to lodge use.
The building reflects Masonic traditions through its design and interior spaces arranged for membership gatherings. You can see how the rooms were organized to serve the lodge's ceremonial purposes.
The temple is located in Kent's West Main Street Historic District and is accessible by car or on foot. Some interior areas have limited access, so it helps to plan your visit ahead of time.
A third-floor ballroom has remained closed since 1886 following a tragic accident in that space. This sealed room is a quiet reminder of a dark chapter in the building's past.
