Indian Lake State Park is a protected area centered on a large inland lake near Lakeview, Ohio. The park has four boat ramps, several beaches, and hundreds of campsites spread along the shoreline.
The lake was built in the mid-1800s to supply water for the Miami and Erie Canal, with construction completed around 1860. In the early 1900s, steamship and electric railway lines made the area easy to reach, turning it into a popular summer destination known as the 'Midwest's Million Dollar Playground.'
The park is accessible along State Route 235 east of Lakeview and is open from dawn to dusk every day. Water activities can get crowded on weekends, especially in open boating zones, so a weekday visit tends to be calmer.
Indian Lake is the only inland lake in Ohio with lights on its buoys, making it one of the few places in the state where boating after dark is practical. The lake also has no horsepower limit for boat engines, which makes it one of the rare inland waters in Ohio open to high-speed boats.
