Qingyin Ge

Qingyin Ge, Buddhist pavilion in Emeishan City, China

Description

Qingyin Ge is a Buddhist pavilion situated between the Black Dragon River and the White Dragon River on Mount Emei. Three Buddhist statues stand inside: Shakyamuni, Manjushri, and Samantabhadra, each representing different aspects of Buddhist tradition.

History

The pavilion was built during the Tang Dynasty and served as an important site for Buddhist worship. Over the centuries, it remained a central stop on the pilgrimage route up Mount Emei.

Culture

Pilgrims come here to make offerings and participate in Buddhist rituals as part of their spiritual journey. The natural sounds created by the two rivers form an essential part of the experience at this location.

Practical

The site is accessible by established pathways and stone steps, with resting areas available along the route. The areas near the water can become slippery during wet weather, so sturdy shoes are recommended.

Did you know?

The pavilion's name means Clear Sound Pavilion, derived from the water flows and currents that rush through the gorge between the two rivers. These natural acoustics create a shifting soundscape that changes with the seasons.
