Harbin Zoo

Harbin Zoo sits on a large forested property with thousands of animals living in naturalistic enclosures. The grounds are divided into different sections where you can view big cats, birds, and other species from various climates across the facility.

The original facility opened in 1954 at a different location, while the current one began operating in 2004. The move allowed the animals to be housed in larger and more natural settings.

The zoo serves as a place where visitors encounter animals native to northern regions and learn about their importance to local ecosystems. Walking through the grounds, you notice how the facility connects people to wildlife they might never see in nature.

The grounds feature walking paths through different sections and rest areas between viewing zones. Plan to spend several hours on foot, so wear comfortable shoes for getting around.

This facility is one of the primary places in China where you can observe Siberian tigers in spacious enclosures. These rare big cats have become very difficult to find in their natural habitat.
