Ureibe bei Steibis, Ancient yew tree in Oberstaufen, Germany
The female European yew features a hollow trunk measuring 5 meters in circumference and extends numerous branches forming a wide spreading crown.
This European yew tree, standing at an elevation of 1,070 meters at the foot of Mount Seelekopf, dates back at least 600 years.
The Ureibe holds natural monument status in Landkreis Oberallgäu, representing one of Bavaria's most significant heritage trees within Naturpark Nagelfluhkette.
Visitors can reach the tree by following the normal path to Hochgrat and Staufner Haus, after passing the Lower Lauchalpe.
Despite its advanced age and location at high altitude with limited growing season, this yew continues to produce abundant fruits annually.
