Nagelfluhkette Nature Park, Nature park between Bavaria, Germany and Vorarlberg, Austria.
Nagelfluhkette Nature Park spans a mountainous landscape with forests and meadows that extends from the Oberallgäu region into Vorarlberg. The terrain varies between gentler elevations and higher peaks with different vegetation zones.
The park was established in 2008 as the first cross-border protected area between Germany and Austria. This founding marked an important turning point in regional cooperation to protect the Alpine landscape.
Communities on both sides of the border work together to manage this protected area and demonstrate cooperation between Germany and Austria. Visitors notice this cross-border partnership reflected in the infrastructure and shared initiatives throughout the park.
The AlpSeeHaus visitor center in Bühl is a good starting point to learn about trails and seasonal activities. The center helps visitors plan their visits based on interests and physical ability.
The name comes from a special rock formation where river pebbles are embedded in boulders and resemble nail heads. This distinctive geological structure shapes the entire massif and is visible to hikers who look closely.
