Archäopark Vogelherd, Archaeological park in Niederstotzingen, Germany
Archäopark Vogelherd is an open-air museum on about 3.5 hectares with indoor exhibitions and reconstructed Stone Age settlements near the Vogelherd Cave. The site combines modern museum spaces with recreated dwellings and work areas from prehistoric times.
Excavations at Vogelherd Cave uncovered major findings from the Stone Age, including carved mammoth bone figurines more than 30,000 years old. These archaeological discoveries led to the creation of the park as a place for research and public education.
The park shows how people lived and worked during the Stone Age, with tools and hunting methods you can experience in the reconstructed settlements on site. The displays give you a sense of what daily life looked like in this distant period.
The park offers guided tours, workshops, and parking for visitors who want to spend time exploring the full grounds. There is also a cafe on site where you can grab refreshments before or after your visit.
Visitors can try making fire with stones or throwing spears the way prehistoric people did, making the experience very hands-on. These practical activities help you understand the skills and challenges that our early ancestors faced.
