Bastion Leibfried, Fortification viewpoint in Stuttgart, Germany
Bastion Leibfried is an architectural structure in Stuttgart with several concentric ring paths that lead to a central platform. The natural stone wall at the center has a diameter of about 12 meters and creates a natural viewpoint for the surrounding city.
The structure was built in 1993 for the International Garden Exhibition on the site of a former water reservoir. The project transformed an old functional location into a public viewpoint for the city.
Steel plates on the parapet walls display engraved texts that explain the views of Stuttgart's cityscape and help visitors understand what they are looking at.
The site is accessible around the clock and can be reached through multiple routes, some of which are suitable for people with limited mobility. The paths from Pragsattel and Löwentorbrücke are especially recommended for visitors with mobility needs.
The ring paths were constructed with irregularly hewn steps that deviate from standard measurements, creating an optical illusion. This unconventional approach challenges visitors to reconsider their usual perceptions as they walk.
