Oratorio de San Felipe de Neri, Toledo, Gothic oratory in Toledo Historic Center, Spain.
The Oratorio de San Felipe de Neri is a rectangular chapel with ribbed vaulting and exterior masonry in the Toledo style. A large pointed arch creates a visual connection to the adjacent structure and defines the architectural composition.
The oratory was built in the 15th century as part of the San Juan Bautista Church, which was demolished between 1771 and 1777. It survived the destruction of the larger church and has remained standing since.
The space served as a gathering place for religious communities and spiritual meetings over many centuries. Today visitors can observe how the interior layout was designed to accommodate group gatherings and devotional practices.
The oratory is managed by Toledo authorities and typically hosts rotating art exhibitions by regional and contemporary artists. Checking ahead for current exhibitions is recommended, as access and opening times may vary depending on what is on display.
Beneath the oratory lie remains of a Roman bath from the 1st century, when the city was called Toletum. These archaeological layers reveal how long the site has been inhabited and used.
