The construction of this religious building began in the late 12th century, marking the transition period between Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles.
The main altar contains noble family tombs of the Acuña lineage and features Hispanic-Flemish style artworks that represent regional artistic traditions.
The church opens its doors during peak tourist seasons, particularly during Holy Week and summer months, through an agreement with the Diocese of Palencia.
This church hosted the baptism of Isabel of Aragon, firstborn of the Catholic Monarchs, in 1470 and received visits from Carlos I and Felipe II.
