Puente de Hierro, Palencia, Steel bridge in Palencia, Spain.

The Puente de Hierro stretches across the Carrión River with a functional steel structure that connects both sides of Palencia.

Constructed in 1911, this steel bridge replaced a wooden structure from 1874 that had deteriorated and was closed by the city council in 1882.

The bridge bears the name of Abilio Calderón, a local deputy who served as Director General of Public Works and facilitated its construction.

The structure provides essential access from downtown Palencia to the Dos Aguas island, Hospital Río Carrión, and the road to Villamuriel de Cerrato.

Engineers Luis Morales and Eduardo Jungairiño designed the bridge, with ironwork completed at the Nervión Shipyards in the Basque Country.
