Church of San Lázaro, Palencia

The church originated in 1076 as part of a pilgrims' hospital founded by El Cid and underwent major reconstruction beginning in 1508 under Sancho de Castilla. These rebuilding efforts created the Gothic forms that shape the building today.

The interior holds a 16th-century altarpiece originally from Tordehumos church, featuring nineteen sculptural groups connected to the Berruguete and Valmaseda artistic traditions.

The building underwent major renovations between 1955 and 1959 and received cleaning and restoration work in 2006. Visitors should know that the church remains an active parish building and continues to serve its congregation daily.
