Tel Batash

Tel Batash is an archaeological excavation site located in the Sorek Valley between the coastal plains and Judean hills. The location reveals eleven distinct settlement layers with remains from the Middle Bronze Age through the Persian period.

Initial settlement dates to the Middle Bronze Age, and the area experienced significant transitions under different rulers over time. The findings show that the region passed through distinct phases of Canaanite, Philistine, and Israelite occupation.

The site shows layers from different peoples who lived here and left their mark on the land. Visitors can see remains of settlements, pottery styles, and building traces that reveal how various communities shaped this place over time.

Access is provided through marked pathways leading to various excavation areas across the site. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for uneven ground with exposed archaeological features.

One particular layer contains painted pottery patterns that mark a distinct period of Philistine settlement at the site. This decorative style helps researchers better understand the timeline of occupation during that era.
