Mausoleum of Theodoric, Historical civil building museum near Ravenna, Italy
The Mausoleum consists of two decagonal levels constructed with Istrian limestone blocks, topped by a monolithic dome measuring 36 feet in diameter.
The Ostrogothic emperor Theodoric commissioned this tomb in 520, but after Ravenna's capture by Belisarius in 540, his remains were removed from the structure.
The structure represents a combination of Roman construction techniques with Germanic decorative elements, as seen in the carved tongue frieze and metalwork patterns.
The mausoleum opens daily from 8:30 to 19:00 between March and October, and from 8:30 to 16:30 between October and March.
The dome consists of a single carved stone weighing 230 tonnes, featuring twelve projecting spurs inscribed with apostles' names in Latin.
