安満宮山古墳

Amafutsukiyama Kofun is a rectangular burial mound from the 3rd century measuring approximately 18 by 21 meters, containing a preserved burial chamber system. The site displays a glass-covered excavation pit with replicas of the original burial furnishings.

This mound was built in the 3rd century and contained bronze mirrors bearing inscriptions dated to 239. These rank among the oldest dated mirrors ever discovered in Japan.

The tomb reveals early Japanese burial practices through its preserved offerings like bronze mirrors, iron tools, and glass beads. These objects show how wealthy regional leaders were connected to distant trading networks.

The tomb is reachable on foot from central Takatsuki, requiring a walk of about 20 to 30 minutes depending on your starting point. The site is accessible year-round and provides informational signage to help visitors understand its history.

The burial chamber features a white floor treated with mercury oxide, an unusual preservation technique from ancient times. Inside also lies a human-shaped figure representing the buried regional leader.
