本行寺, buddhistischer Tempel in Japan
Hongyō-ji is a Nichiren Buddhist temple in central Takatsuki featuring traditional wooden buildings and quiet gardens. The main grounds contain several structures, including a main hall, a celestial horse god hall, and a bell tower.
The temple originated near Takatsuki during Emperor Munmu's reign and was later reconstructed by priest Nichiju in 1596 after destruction during the Sengoku period. In 1651, feudal lord Nagai Naose donated a new main hall, and the temple became known for healing prayers.
The temple serves as a gathering place for local believers who come to pray for health and protection. Seasonal rituals and memorial services connect the community to its spiritual traditions and ancestors.
The temple is about a five-minute walk from Takatsuki station on the Hankyu line and easily accessible. The setting is calm and well-suited for strolling through the neighborhood, which contains other small temples and shrines.
The main gate of the temple originally came from Takatsuki Castle and was relocated here, making it a rare example of repurposed architecture. The poet Fujii Takegai from Takatsuki is buried on the temple grounds, adding to its local cultural significance.
