San'in Kaigan Geopark

The geopark extends across 2,458 square kilometers through Tottori, Hyogo, and Kyoto Prefectures, featuring coastal cliffs, limestone caves, and rock formations.

The site received recognition as a Japanese Geopark in 2008 before joining the Global Geopark Network in 2010, marking its international geological significance.

Local communities within the geopark maintain traditional practices influenced by geological features, including specific fishing methods and coastal resource management.

Visitors can explore the park through designated trails connecting six main locations, including Genbudo Cave, Tateiwa Rock, and the Tottori Sand Dunes.

The basalt formations at Genbudo Cave display distinct hexagonal columns that formed through volcanic activity during the Sea of Japan's creation.
