Kakimori Bunko

Kakimori Bunko is an art museum in Itami housed in a building designed to echo the form of traditional sake breweries. The collection includes thousands of haiku books, original manuscripts, and visual artworks spanning multiple centuries.

The museum was established in 1984 and preserves materials connected to Itami's cultural flourishing during the Edo period. This historical link shows how the city served as a center for poetic and artistic activity over centuries.

The space houses materials that reveal how haiku poetry shaped intellectual life for centuries. Visitors today can observe how this literary tradition continues to influence the way people think about nature and expression.

The museum sits about nine minutes on foot from Itami Hankyu and JR stations, making it straightforward to reach. Visitors can view original works and access microfilm viewing stations for closer study of materials in the collection.

The institution holds one of the three largest haiku collections in the world and includes works by renowned masters. Visitors often discover that the building's design itself becomes part of the artistic experience on their visit.
