Mount Horaiji

Mount Horaiji rises 695 meters above sea level, featuring dense forests of cedar and cypress trees across its slopes and rocky formations.

The construction of Horaiji Temple in 703 marked the beginning of the mountain's religious significance, leading to its recognition as a Place of Scenic Beauty.

A monumental stairway of 1,425 stone steps leads to Horaiji Temple, where Buddhist practitioners have conducted ceremonies for over 1,300 years.

Visitors can reach the mountain by taking a local bus from Hon-Nagashino Station or connecting through Toyohashi Station via the Shinkansen from Nagoya.

The mountain houses an 800-year-old Umbrella Cedar, measuring 60 meters in height and recognized as one of the 100 finest trees in Japan.
