Shinshiro, Administrative city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan

Shinshiro is an administrative city in Aichi Prefecture that covers 499 square kilometers (193 square miles) in the eastern part of the prefecture. The northern and eastern sections are marked by forested mountains, while the city area includes smaller settlements and farmland between the ridges.

The area was ruled by the Okudaira clan during the Sengoku period, who used Nagashino Castle as their fortress. This castle played a central role in the Battle of Nagashino in 1575, a decisive fight between Takeda forces and the Oda-Tokugawa alliance.

Local residents gather for annual celebrations such as the TennouMatsuri, a traditional festival that brings together the community with processions and ceremonies. Paragliders use the hills and thermals around the area for competitions, while cyclists explore the winding country roads through forests and valleys during the Tour de Shinshiro event.

Visitors can explore the surrounding nature on foot or by bicycle, with various trails leading through forested areas and along streams. The terrain is often hilly, so wear comfortable footwear and allow enough time for walks or bike rides through the countryside.

The city area contains numerous natural sites such as Mount Houraiji, Ayu Falls, and the seven waterfalls of Adera. These natural spots are often tucked away from main roads and require some effort to reach, but reward visitors with quiet trails and views over the forested valley.
