Rokkō Bridge, Road bridge in Namegata and Hokota, Japan.

Rokkō Bridge is a road bridge in Ibaraki Prefecture that connects the municipalities of Namegata and Hokota across Kasumigaura Lake. It has two traffic lanes, pedestrian paths on both sides, and was built with modern construction methods.

The original bridge opened in 1968 but suffered severe damage during the 2011 Eastern Japan Earthquake. It was replaced by a new structure that was completed and opened in 2012.

The name Rokkō comes from the first characters of two former districts, Kashima and Namegata, preserving the geographical history of the Ibaraki region. As you cross the bridge, you experience the connection between these two communities, marked by this naming choice.

The bridge is well-designed for cars and has wide pedestrian paths where walkers and cyclists can move safely. You can access it from either side, and crossing is straightforward for all types of traffic.

The current structure uses continuous steel composite construction with large spans that avoid supports in the water. This design allows free passage for boats underneath and shows advanced Japanese engineering methods.
