Somanouchi Kofun Cluster

The Somanouchi Kofun Cluster is a group of earthen burial mounds shaped like keyholes in varying sizes spread across an archaeological site in Nara Prefecture. The arrangement and structure of these mounds show the care ancient Japan took in designing burial grounds.

These burial sites were built between the 3rd and 6th centuries during a period of growing social organization in Japan. They show how people of that time expressed their social structure and ability to plan large-scale construction projects.
