Fatburan, Historic windmill site in Södermalm, Stockholm, Sweden
The Fatburan area sits on the former location of a water body that stretched from Östgötagatan to Rosenlundsgatan in Stockholm's Södermalm district.
Built in the 1600s and documented since 1679, the Fatburan windmill operated near Lake Fatburen until its demolition in 1892.
The name Fatburen originates from medieval Swedish, referring to a storage house, as the lake provided fresh fish for the royal castle.
The location now features residential buildings, with Fatburs Kvarngata street running from Rosenlundsgatan to Timmermansgatan.
The oxygen-poor waters of the former lake preserved plant remains, including remnants of common reed that archaeologists can study today.
