Wufengqi Waterfall, Wasserfall in der Republik China
Wufengqi Waterfall is a multi-tiered cascade in Taiwan and features three main layers that stretch about 100 meters from top to bottom. The water flows over rocky cliffs and forms pools, with each layer offering a different view as it rushes down.
A trail called the Ancient Horse Route once connected Jiaoxi to Taipei before modern roads were built, passing near the falls. Today the trail is lined with orchards growing oranges and kumquats, reflecting the area's rural past.
The name Wufengqi refers to five sharp peaks that stand in a row like banners worn by generals in traditional Chinese opera. Visitors notice this striking backdrop as they explore the falls and the surrounding valley.
The trails are easy to follow and shaded by trees, which keeps you cool on warm days. Wear proper footwear since rocks can be slippery after rain, and check the weather forecast before visiting as conditions can change quickly, especially in the rainy season.
Behind the falls stands a small circular church called Our Lady of Wufengqi, built where people believe the Virgin Mary appeared in 1980 to help a tired group of hikers. From this quiet spot, visitors can explore a nearby hiking trail up Matcha Mountain.
