Doe Run Inn, Historic restaurant in Brandenburg, Kentucky
Doe Run Inn is a historic restaurant and lodging building made of limestone in Meade County featuring original hand-hewn timber beams and thick stone walls. The structure displays mill components and water-powered mechanisms from its 1788 construction period.
The building was constructed in 1788 as a water-powered mill and underwent later changes for other uses. Thomas Lincoln, father of President Abraham Lincoln, worked as a stonemason on a newer section of the structure in 1800.
The building became the Sulfur Wells Hotel in 1901, drawing visitors seeking mineral water treatments in the area. People came here to experience what they believed were healing properties of the natural spring.
The restaurant is located at 500 Doe Run Hotel Road, about 2 miles southeast of Brandenburg near Doe Run Creek. Access is via Kentucky Route 1638, a rural road that provides straightforward directions to the site.
Room mirrors in the former inn section reportedly display unexplained reflections of a woman dressed in 19th-century clothing according to visitor accounts. These reports give the place a story that extends beyond its documented history.
