The limestone cave system was discovered in 1883 during quarrying operations and opened to visitors in 1930 as an educational attraction.
The cave serves as an educational center where visitors learn about geological processes, mineral formation, and the importance of preserving natural underground systems.
Tours require advance reservations, last approximately 45 minutes, and maintain a constant temperature of 52°F throughout the year regardless of outside conditions.
The underground river flowing through the caverns remains a mystery, as scientists have not identified its source or final destination.
