Old Probst Church

Old Probst Church is a rectangular wooden structure built on a cut stone foundation with characteristic 19th-century design. The clapboard siding covers a frame that reflects the practical building methods early settlers used in this region.

The church was built around 1887 to replace an earlier log structure that stood since 1769. When services ended in 1920, the building shifted to serving the community in other ways.

The church reflects Lutheran traditions that shaped religious life in Pendleton County for generations. You can sense how such buildings once served as the spiritual center for farming communities in the region.

The building sits off the main roads and is reached via County Route 21/9 in a rural setting. The location on open land makes it accessible, but it is worth checking the conditions before visiting.

A second log church building originally stood on the site before being removed in 1885. The relocated structure was repurposed first as a dwelling and later converted into a barn on another property.
