Untitled, Bronze sculpture at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, United States.
Untitled (Jazz Musicians) is a bronze sculptural group at a street corner in Indianapolis. The work displays five musicians standing side by side with their instruments, each figure mounted on its own circular base.
The artwork was created in 1995 by John Spaulding and honors musicians who shaped the jazz culture of Indiana Avenue. Its placement facing the Madam Walker Legacy Center connects it to the heritage of this historic neighborhood.
The bronze figures represent real musicians whose names are marked on plaques beside the sculptures. Visitors can identify each instrument and sense the connection to the jazz history of this neighborhood.
The sculptures are located at an easily accessible street location and visible from multiple viewpoints. The site is walkable and provides a good starting point for exploring the surrounding neighborhood.
In 2011 the saxophone figure was broken off and stolen but was later recovered after being found in a waste bin at a scrap yard. This incident reflects the complex history of public art in this setting.
