Indianapolis Cultural Trail: A Legacy of Gene & Marilyn Glick, Urban pathway network in downtown Indianapolis, United States

The Indianapolis Cultural Trail is a network of walking and cycling paths spanning eight miles (13 km) through downtown, linking six different neighborhoods with dedicated spaces for pedestrians and bicycles. The connected route forms a continuous pathway rather than separate segments, making navigation straightforward for users exploring multiple districts.

The pathway opened in 2013 following Gene and Marilyn Glick's vision, repurposing existing sidewalks and streets into a connected network that previously existed as separate segments. This transformation reflected a shift in how the city approached connecting its neighborhoods and supporting foot traffic through downtown.

The pathway passes through neighborhoods where jazz music shaped Indiana Avenue's identity, experimental theaters line Mass Avenue, fresh food vendors fill Market East, and artist-run galleries dot Fountain Square. Walking the route lets you move between these distinct creative hubs and see how local communities shape their spaces today.

Several entry points along the route connect directly to bus stops and transit stations, making it easy to start from various locations throughout downtown. The paved surface is flat and smooth, suitable for walking, jogging, or cycling at a comfortable pace for most visitors.

A southern extension connects the Wholesale District directly to Fountain Square, opening new ways to reach Lucas Oil Stadium and the Convention Center on foot. This addition allows visitors to walk between major event venues and the creative neighborhoods without leaving the designated path.
