Manchester Apartments

The Manchester Apartments is a three-story residential building with a gabled front pavilion extending approximately 210 feet in length. The facade combines stucco and half-timbering in classic Tudor Revival style and houses individual apartment units.

The building was constructed in 1929 under architect Harry R. Fitton as part of residential development in Indianapolis. In 1998 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its importance to the city's architectural history.

The building displays Tudor-style features with half-timbering and stucco work that were popular for residential design during that era. These visual choices made the structure stand out in its neighborhood and continue to shape the streetscape today.

The building is located on Pennsylvania Street and is easily accessible on foot in an established residential neighborhood. Structural renovations performed in 1971 preserved its historical features while improving the overall integrity of the structure.

The building sits next to the Sheffield Inn and displays a rare combination of decorative Tudor elements with practical apartment use. This blend of aesthetic ambition and everyday function was uncommon for urban residential structures of that era.
