Patterson Office Tower, Academic high-rise at University of Kentucky, Lexington, US.
Patterson Office Tower is an 18-story office building on the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington. It holds faculty offices and conference rooms for a range of academic departments spread across its floors.
The tower was completed in 1969, replacing the former White Hall dormitory that once stood on the same site. It was named after James Kennedy Patterson, the first president of the university.
The 18th floor of the tower is a regular spot for academic talks and open discussions among faculty and students. The view from up there gives a broad look over the University of Kentucky campus.
Six elevators serve the building and make it easy to reach any floor, whether you are heading to an office or a conference room. A basement passage connects to other campus facilities, including the Big Blue Pantry student support service.
At some point, 1,000 ping-pong balls were dropped from the roof of the tower to mark the end of a semester, with about 100 students waiting below to collect them. It is one of those spontaneous campus moments that people still talk about.
