Michigan Avenue Historic Commercial District

Michigan Avenue Historic Commercial District is a collection of brick and stone buildings along the south side of Michigan Avenue in Detroit featuring Italian and commercial architectural styles. The structures display decorative stonework, arched windows, and storefront designs typical of late 19th-century construction.

The area began developing in the mid-1800s when German immigrants established commercial buildings to serve their growing community. Over subsequent decades, the structures housed coal dealers, carriage makers, and other trades that supported Detroit's economic growth.
