Rancho Las Palmas, Historic Queen Anne mansion in Salinas, United States.
Rancho Las Palmas is a three-story mansion with redwood siding, fish-scale shingles, a hipped roof, and a tower topped with a brass eagle. The building stands on historic grounds and is now part of a gated residential community called Las Palmas Ranch.
The mansion was built in 1891 by successful farmer Hiram Corey on land that was originally part of a Spanish land grant. Its creation reflects the time when California pioneers displayed early regional wealth through impressive residences.
The mansion displays design ideas from around 1890, when wealthy California farmers integrated European style elements into their homes. You can read from the exterior architecture how such rich families showcased power and wealth through their residences.
The property sits within a gated residential community and is not open to the public, so visiting from outside is not readily possible. It is best to inquire ahead or view the area from public roads nearby.
The interior was originally furnished with European antiques that the family collected during their travels abroad. This collection gives a sense of how wealthy American families outfitted their homes with international treasures.
