星天qlay, Community center in Hodogaya-ku, Japan

The 星天qlay building sits under the elevated railway line connecting Hoshikawa Station and Tennōchō Station in Yokohama. It contains multiple zones: Zone B houses retail shops, Zone C offers educational programs, Zone D features lifestyle-related activities, and Zone E provides social spaces for gathering.

The structure was created by repurposing the space underneath existing railway tracks in Yokohama for public use. This project reflects a broader trend in Japanese cities to transform infrastructure into active community spaces that serve daily needs.

The space beneath the tracks serves multiple communities with shops, restaurants, and shared work areas alongside each other. This mix shows how modern cities design shared spaces to support different activities in one location.

The location is easy to reach, positioned between two stations with direct access from both sides. Visiting on weekdays or early morning tends to be less crowded than weekends and busy times.

The Qlaytion Gallery hosts monthly art exhibitions showcasing local artists from the area. These gatherings provide insight into the artistic life and creative work happening within the region.
