Ხანის სასახლე

Khan's Palace is a three-story residence in Lankaran combining French architectural elements with Oriental design patterns. Mythological figures adorn its facade, shaping how the building appears from outside.

The palace was built in 1913 by Mir Ahmad Khan to honor his wife Tugra, who won a beauty contest in Tbilisi as Miss Caucasus. The structure rose during a period when Lankaran was becoming a modern trading center.

The building combines French and Azerbaijani architectural approaches, mixing classical Baroque forms with traditional Eastern construction methods. This blend appears clearly in the decorated facades and the room layout.

The palace now houses a museum dedicated to Lankaran's history and ethnography, displaying about 7,000 objects. Visitors should allow time for the individual rooms, as the collections show the region's heritage in depth.

The building was groundbreaking as the first multi-story structure in Lankaran and set new standards for the region. It was also the first building in town to feature electric lighting and heating, highlighting its modern ambitions.
