Aliagha Vahid Garden, Public park in Icheri Sheher district, Baku, Azerbaijan
Aliagha Vahid Garden is a public park in the Icheri Sheher district of Baku featuring a bronze bust of poet Aliagha Vahid near Kichik Gala street. The space is filled with winding paths and green areas, and also houses the YAY Gallery for art exhibitions.
The garden was created when the poet's bust was moved here from Mikhailovsky Garden in 2009, which was subsequently renamed Philharmonic Garden. This relocation marked a turning point in the memorial landscape of the district.
The garden is named after the poet Aliagha Vahid and serves as a place where visitors connect with local literary history. The YAY Gallery within the garden displays works by local artists and offers insight into contemporary Azerbaijani art production.
The park sits right next to Icheri Sheher metro station, making it easily accessible and providing good access to nearby sights. The Chin Mosque with a collection of historical coins is nearby and can be visited during the same trip.
The garden commemorates Aliagha Vahid, a poet who developed a false reputation as a drinker during political repression to protect himself. This survival strategy allowed him to work undisturbed during difficult times.
