Kumagai House, Traditional dwelling in Toyone, Japan
The Kumagai House presents traditional Japanese architectural elements with a thatched roof and wooden beams spanning across multiple levels of living spaces.
Dating from the 1800s, this residence belonged to a prominent merchant family who managed silver mines under the authorization of the Tokugawa government.
The house contains numerous artifacts and displays that demonstrate domestic life patterns and traditional crafts from past centuries in rural Japan.
The residence opens from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with admission fees of 520 yen for adults and 100 yen for students through junior high school.
Every second Sunday, visitors experience traditional cooking methods during the Kamado-no-hi event, using original stoves within the house.
