Moseley’s on the Charles

Moseley's on the Charles is a ballroom located along the Charles River in Dedham featuring expansive windows that overlook the waterfront and surrounding woodland. The building contains facilities designed to accommodate large events and performances while retaining its original architectural character.

The structure was founded in 1905 by Elisha Moseley as a combined summer canoe house and ballroom serving the community for over a century. It closed in 2022 after operating continuously throughout that period.

The building served as a performance venue where visitors could experience live music from major jazz and dance artists. Its riverside location and design made it a natural gathering place for the local community to celebrate entertainment and culture.

The venue sits directly on the riverfront and is easily accessible by road with parking available nearby for visitors. The interior spaces are spacious and configured to comfortably accommodate larger groups.

Every December the building hosted a gathering of members from The Society in Dedham for Apprehending Horse Thieves, an unusual local tradition maintained across generations. This annual meeting represented a distinctive piece of community history and local heritage.
