Gruta da Lapinha, Limestone cave in Sumidouro State Park, Brazil.
The cave extends 511 meters in length and reaches depths of 40 meters, containing 16 interconnected chambers with illuminated geological formations.
Danish scientist Peter Wilhelm Lund discovered the cave in 1835, uncovering significant fossils including a 10,000-year-old human skull and extinct animal remains.
The Peter Lund Museum, situated at the cave entrance, exhibits archaeological artifacts and documents from the original excavations of the nineteenth century.
Access to the cave requires guided tours from Tuesday to Sunday between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with an entrance fee of 25 Brazilian reais.
The cave sits within an area called Anhanhonhacanhuva by indigenous peoples, meaning 'still water that disappears into the hole of the Earth'.
