Ras Abrouq, Coastal settlement in Al-Shahaniya, Qatar

Ras Abrouq is a coastal settlement with white sand beaches and natural rock formations at the edge of the Al-Reem Biosphere Reserve. The area stretches along the Arabian Gulf with a mix of undeveloped shoreline and private residential compounds.

The region gained attention in 1988 when the municipality of Al-Shahaniya separated from Al Rayyan, creating new administrative boundaries for the coastal area. This shift shaped local governance and enabled independent development of the territory.

The local restaurant Qissa combines traditional Qatari cooking with fresh ingredients from regional suppliers. The meals reflect how the area maintains its connection to the sea and the land.

The location is about one hour by car from Doha and is easiest to reach by vehicle. It can be visited year-round, though the cooler winter months are more comfortable for exploring the beaches.

The beach serves as a protected nesting ground for sea turtles, where visitors can watch hatchlings take their first journey to the water. This role makes the area an important site for protecting these endangered species.
