27 Waterfalls of Damajagua, Natural waterfall complex in Imbert, Dominican Republic.
The 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua form a connected system of cascades and pools running through thick tropical forest with established walkways linking each section. The formation spreads across different elevation levels, with each pool created by natural rock formations that collect water from the flow above.
The area remained largely undeveloped and rarely visited until local residents began establishing organized access routes and safety systems in the late 1990s. This grassroots effort eventually opened the site to tourism while keeping community involvement central to its operation.
The falls hold meaning for local people as a place where traditional knowledge about regional plants and rock formations is shared with visitors. These natural pools and cascades remain central to how the community connects with and understands their immediate landscape.
A complete visit through all sections takes around four hours and requires a guide at all times. Wear sturdy footwear and expect wet conditions on the paths, as mist and water spray are constant throughout the circuit.
At several points along the circuit, visitors can jump from cliffs directly into the pools below, with heights ranging from 2 to 8 meters if they wish. This optional thrill is something many people remember long after their visit ends.
