Yelapa Beach, Beach in Cabo Corrientes, Mexico.

Yelapa Beach is a coastal stretch in a small cove south of Puerto Vallarta, surrounded by mountains and palm trees along light-colored sand. The waters show shades of green and blue, and the village buildings sit right at the waterline where locals and visitors mix.

The name comes from the Purepecha indigenous language and means 'where waters come together or form a pond'. The area remained a quiet fishing settlement on the remote coast for generations.

Artists and craftspeople have settled here over time, bringing creative energy that shapes daily life in the village. Fishing traditions and artistic pursuits coexist naturally along the shore.

Boats depart regularly from Puerto Vallarta's Los Muertos Pier, and this water route is the only way to reach the village. Arriving early helps secure a spot and allows time to plan your return ride home.

The village operates without regular electricity supply and has no vehicle roads, which sets it apart from nearby coastal tourist spots. This separation from modern conveniences shapes the entire rhythm of the day and creates an immediate sense of difference when you arrive.

Discover Mexico: sculpture gardens, caves, islands and Mayan ruins

Mexico offers much more than the usual travel spots. This collection includes sculpture gardens, caves, islands, colonial towns, volcanoes, Mayan sites, oases, lakes, and protected areas across the country. You will find mineral pools in Oaxaca, desert landscapes in Sonora, underground caves, car-free islands, and hidden Maya ruins in the jungle. These places show how diverse Mexico is: its striking landforms, its pre-Hispanic roots, and villages where old customs are still alive. From tropical waterfalls to volcanoes that appeared overnight, from white sands to thick forests, each place tells a different story and gives an honest experience far from common tourist routes.

Hidden beaches in Mexico: wild swimming, fishing villages, secret coves

Mexico has beaches that stay away from the crowds of common tourist spots. They stretch from the sheltered bays of Quintana Roo, where sea turtles come to lay eggs, to the quiet coasts of Baja California Sur. These places keep their natural feel: clear waters, coral reefs filled with colorful fish, and the daily rhythm of local fishermen. To get to many of these beaches, you need to take a boat or walk along a trail, making them places only the truly curious travel to. In the south of the country, near Jalisco and Guerrero, other beaches remain wild. They offer white or gray sandy shores lined with limestone rocks or rainforests. Small fishing villages along the coast stay authentic: the residents sell their catch directly on the sand, and seafood restaurants serve fresh catches. There are no large hotel complexes or busy coastal roads. Most visitors here are looking for quiet and nature, away from the busy seaside resorts.
