Plaza de Armas

Plaza de Armas is a rectangular public square in the center of Puerto Vallarta with a wrought iron gazebo standing in the middle. Trees and benches fill the space, creating areas to sit and rest.

The square began in the 1800s as the original center of Puerto Vallarta, where key buildings like the municipal government house and the parish church were constructed. It served as the foundation for the town's growth from the start.

Local bands perform traditional Mexican music here regularly, creating a gathering place where residents and visitors spend time together in the evenings. The performances reflect how the square remains the social heart of the old town.

The square sits next to the Municipal Palace, the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and many restaurants along the waterfront. Visit in the late afternoon or evening when the square feels more active.

The square holds palm trees more than a century old that have watched Puerto Vallarta transform from a small fishing village into a modern port city. These ancient trees are living witnesses to the place's transformation.
