The square was established in the 1800s as the original center of Puerto Vallarta, where government buildings and the parish church were constructed.
The gazebo regularly hosts municipal bands performing traditional Mexican music, drawing local families and visitors during evening concerts.
The square provides direct access to the Municipal Palace, the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and numerous restaurants along the malecón.
The plaza contains palm trees over 100 years old, which have witnessed the transformation of Puerto Vallarta from a small fishing village.
