Vallarta Botanical Gardens

Vallarta Botanical Gardens is a large hillside property housing multiple plant collections arranged across the sloped terrain. Orchids, magnolias, oaks, bromeliads, agaves, cacti, rhododendrons, and wild palms grow here at an elevation of about 1,300 feet, with pathways connecting different sections.

The property was originally a cattle ranch before being transformed into a botanical garden starting in 2004. The reforestation effort involved planting pine, oak, and mahogany trees across the hillside.

The gardens showcase Mexican crops like vanilla and cacao, plants that have shaped local farming traditions for generations. Visitors walk through sections dedicated to these species and see how they fit into the broader agricultural landscape of the region.

The gardens are open daily except Mondays, and the hillside paths are well-marked for walking. Comfortable shoes are essential as the terrain is sloped and can become slippery after rain.

The Rio Horcones river flows through the property, creating natural swimming spots where boulders and native forest meet. These water-filled areas offer visitors a refreshing place to cool off while exploring the gardens.
