Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Outdoor sculpture garden in City Park, New Orleans, United States
This garden is a calm outdoor space where more than 90 sculptures sit among tall pines, live oaks draped with Spanish moss, magnolias, and two quiet lagoons that reflect the sky and trees around them.
The garden first opened in 2003 and doubled in size in 2019, growing from a simple idea into one of the country's most important outdoor art spaces with carefully placed sculptures throughout its eleven acres.
Sydney and Walda Besthoff created this space to bring art into everyday life, blending creative works from different times and cultures with the natural beauty of New Orleans' historic trees and water.
The garden is open every day without an entrance fee, and wheelchairs are available for visitors who need them, making it easy for everyone to explore the winding paths and enjoy the art comfortably.
One sculpture stands over 20 feet (6 meters) tall and is made of welded bronze cellos, creating a dramatic tribute to the famous cellist Pablo Casals right by the water's edge where it reflects beautifully.

Louisiana blends old neighborhoods, plantation houses, and diverse natural landscapes. The French Quarter of New Orleans keeps its 18th-century Spanish colonial architecture, with wrought-iron balconies and lively streets where jazz and the sounds of passersby fill the air. In Baton Rouge, the USS Kidd remembers World War II, while in Lafayette, the Vermilionville Museum celebrates the lives of early Acadian settlers with demonstrations of traditional crafts and cooking. Plantations like Laura or Rosedown open their doors to tell the rich story of the South, with restored outbuildings and gardens where time seems to stand still. Along the Gulf of Mexico, Holly Beach attracts families who come to swim, fish, or collect shells. Everywhere, Louisiana culture is part of daily life, seen in festivals like Mardi Gras with its parades filling the streets, in spicy dishes served in local restaurants, and in the music that accompanies every moment of the day.
