New Orleans Botanical Garden, Botanical garden in City Park, New Orleans, United States.
The New Orleans Botanical Garden is a garden within City Park featuring themed sections dedicated to roses, butterflies, tropical plants, and native Louisiana species. Winding pathways connect these areas and guide visitors through the different displays.
The garden was created in 1936 as part of the Works Progress Administration, a job program during the Great Depression. This project brought employment to many people in the region during that difficult period.
Art Deco sculptures by Mexican artist Enrique Alférez are integrated throughout the garden, bringing together creative works with horticultural displays in a balanced way.
The garden is open year-round and features the Garden Study Center, the Pavilion of the Two Sisters, and a conservatory with plant exhibitions. These buildings provide shelter and additional information during your visit.
One special feature is the Historic New Orleans Train Garden, where miniature models of local buildings are crafted from plant materials. The display extends for hundreds of meters with working train tracks running through it.
