Otherworld, Interactive art museum in Columbus, United States
Otherworld is an interactive art museum in Columbus, Ohio, set inside a former industrial building and home to around 40 separate installations spread across several floors. Each installation occupies its own room and is designed to be experienced through movement, touch, or digital devices rather than simply looked at.
The building served as a manufacturing facility until 2019, when a group of artists and entrepreneurs began converting it into an art experience space. More than 100 artists contributed to the installations, and the project has continued to grow since opening.
Otherworld draws heavily from science fiction, fantasy, and digital pop culture, which shapes the look and feel of every room. Visitors can touch, interact with, and even step inside many of the installations, making the experience feel more like entering a story than visiting a gallery.
There is no set path through the museum, so visitors can move between rooms freely and at their own pace. The space covers several floors, so comfortable shoes are a good idea and a visit of at least a couple of hours is worth planning for.
Some of the installations are designed to unlock hidden digital content through a mobile device, layered on top of the physical artwork. This means two people standing in the same room can have noticeably different experiences depending on whether they use their phone.
